housekeeping thoughts

we have had three different groups in camp in the last 3 days. keeping. us. busy.

today i was in housekeeping. not one of my favorite things to do, but my brain started turning and my mind started connecting some dots and i wanted to see more of christ in my work this week… these are my thoughts:

cleaning camp — it’s hard work. and i only take part in turning camp over every now and then. we have to pick up the dirty things and sweep the floors before we can really get the rooms sanitized and vacuumed and bathrooms mopped and wiped down. my mind jumped to how christ ultimately cleansed us of our “dirtiness,” our sins + on the cross. and every day his mercies are new and i get a fresh start. housekeeping is like that in a way. cleaning up the mess. and it always becomes clean again.

obviously, the gospel is infinitely different and better (and perfect on its own!) than my housekeeping analogy. i’m sure there is a more eloquent way to connect those dots, but there is my muddled brain seeking to see more of the cross and the gospel in the little things.

hope your christmas season holds some stillness and rest //

birthday traditions

for andrew’s birthday this year, we decided to start making some birthday traditions.

we went and ate sushi (at NAMA) in Knoxville. he forgot his id, couldn’t order a beer. we laughed.

coke-a-cola classic, it was.

now my birthday is here!    [ COUNTDOWN: 3 days ]    i asked erin if we could institute carvel ice cream cake as my new tradition.

(a little back story on this desire… when i interned at frontier, my boss’s wife, lisa (aka ltatt), always celebrated her birthday growing up with a carvel cake and i loved that! so merging my love of ice cream and my love of ltatt — my new tradition has been born!)

more celebrations to come!

{ andrew }

happy one year (to this post) and my favorite bearded man!

(you need to click on the link to get the rest of what i’m about to say)

really, ak and i “celebrate” (B-T-DUBS, we are still figuring out what that looks like long-distance and maybe remember is a better word) our anniversary on the 21st of each month. i joke that he really should remember it because that’s when his rent is due, but sometimes we forget. and that’s ok. the lines are still blurry on what number anniversary it is…

our conclusion: it doesn’t matter the number, all that matters is looking at what we’ve learned as we continue to walk life together and remembering Christ’s grace in allowing us to do life together.

so, babe, just a little recognition that it has been a while we’ve been doing this thing.. and my heart is full of thankfulness.

my gratefulness grows for you when you point me back to Christ (even when i’m being sassy).

my appreciation of how you love others continues to be renewed in watching you live life and do your job well.

my patience grows when i look at what you do-do, not what you don’t do.

XOXO — miss you especially today , A(y) Baby.

{ july is for favorite things }

i have always loved july.

it is the peak of summer. for the last four years, it’s been the month of young life camp that my confidence blooms as i have (usually) adjusted + learned  my job thus causing fun to be had amidst work. (fingers crossed, that’s true this year as well.)

then, last summer, andrew flew down in july to make us “official” again. BEST day ever. independence day comes right at the beginning… WIN. see, soooooo many perks.

i thought each day of july i’d share one of my favorite things as it is one of my favorite months.

until tomorrow…
